Florianopolis beaches in Brazil’s state of Santa Catarina...

Florianopolis beaches in Brazil’s state of Santa Catarina are arguably some of the most beautiful of all Brazil beaches. They exhibit the country’s finest southern beaches and exude the true Brazilian spirit. With a choice of more than 80 beaches, some are like private islands and others offer popular water-based activities. Florianopolis Brazil is in itself a special place for it is located on the Ilha de Santa Catarina and connected to the mainland by three prominent bridges. Here, long expanses of untouched coastline and plenty of ambrosial stretches are what’s awaiting beach-lovers. Filled with nature preserves, the island is spectacular and illustrative of an era of pre-development in Brazil in many areas.

Praia Mole

Praia Mole spans more than 3,000 feet long and is anywhere from 32 to almost 400 feet wide at different points. It’s a well-known surfing destination with classic conditions and continuous waves ranging from 160 up to 500 feet. Nearby hillsides are used for optimal take-off spots when hang gliding. In the water, the grade dips abruptly, which isn’t ideal for small children but lifeguards are always at hand. Visit on a weekday to enjoy crowd-free conditions, particularly between December and March when the beach is usually at capacity and nearby restaurants are full.

Praia de Galheta

If nude beaches strike your fancy then Praia de Galheta in Florianopolis Brazil is it. It’s both a popular local beach and a significant archaeological site where inhabitation dates back thousands of years. Set roughly ten miles from the downtown core, Galheta sits between both Barra de Lagoa and Praia Mole. About a half-mile long and layered in fine white sand, Galheta is both a surfing and swimming beach flanked by verdant hills and lacking beach houses and Brazil hotels. Though nudity is common, visitors are not required to partake. The beach is well preserved by locals who guard its pristine qualities. Galheta offers no dining or beach bars, but does have a fresh water drinking fountain.

Canasvieiras

One of the oldest and most-loved of all Florianopolis beaches, Canasvieiras is favored for excellent swimming conditions and good on-again, off-again surfing. Popular with the health club industry, there are several good ones along the beach, including a historic, 1930s health club. Nearly a mile long and roughly 260 feet wide, the beach reaches Ponta das Morretes at the southern point and the district of Cachoeira do Bom Jesus at the northern point. Highlights include gentle waves, silky sand, and clear water.

Praia dos Ingleses

Historic forts, powdery sand dunes, warm, clear water, and extensive waves are top features of Praia dos Ingleses. The dunes themselves are a major tourist attraction and physically separate this beach from neighboring Praia Santinho. As a tourist hub, the beach gets very crowded yet offers plenty of choices for amenities, including hotels and restaurants. Possible activities include camping, swimming, water sports, and nighttime music along the shore.

Praia Jururê

Praia Jururê emphasizes beach living in Brazil with a bevy of vacation rentals lining the sparkling green waters. Only fourteen miles from Florianopolis Brazil, there are plenty of conveniences to enjoy here, as well as several adjacent beaches that include Canasvieiras and Praia do Forte. The views from the shore are much like the bay at St Barts: yachts and sailboats dot the water, originating from nearby Santa Catarina Yacht Club. Within the city, visitors will find parks, shopping, bars, supermarkets, and more.

Why Florianopolis? It’s Simple, Really!

Need a little more convincing? Check out this article by the New York Times with the most appropriate title we’ve ever read. “The Place to Be: Florianopolis, Brazil”.

“Florianópolis night life blows away night life in L.A. or New York or anywhere else I’ve been,” said the founder of Nexus Surf, Hans Keeling, a transplanted Californian. Formerly a corporate lawyer, he visited a few years ago and was instantly won over.

“Here you have the combination of Sunset Strip-style and Ibiza-style night life mixed in with the Brazilian proclivity for relaxing and having fun,” he said. “I looked around, and I saw better beaches, better night life, more beautiful people and cheaper prices. It was a pretty easy decision.”
